And try not to panic when the rear gets loose around a corner. I panicked and tried to power through it but didn’t give it enough angle and ended up love-tapping a curb. No damage other than pulling out a couple screws on the chin spoiler, but now I get to fix this tonight instead of chilling out, relaxing, and watching copious amounts of porn sports-ball.

You live and learn. I know from my miata days.

Top tip- find grassy flat field and go mad, great to blown off steam and work on catching slides.

Grassy flat field? Damn. Dunno where I could ever find one of those. In Kansas. Total mystery.

Though it is surprisingly hard, because most are private property, or public property you’ll get yelled at/arrested for being on, or it’s full of suspension-wrecking ruts.

That’s not so bad. It could have been worse. On the way back from my in-laws’ we saw a Grand Am straddling a curbed lane barrier. One of its front wheels was bent out at the top and angled down. Made me wince just seeing it.

I once did just that in a field I thought wasn’t private...

It turned out to be a grass runway...

I guess I should have noticed how well groomed the grass was....

Got chased down by a mustang who’s owner lived on said grassy runway...

Could be worse man. I’ve got basically my entire front end to replace. I’m actually happy I hadn’t mounted my chin spoiler yet because it would be gone if I had.

My thought when I locked up my wheels was “Well, if I screw up the body I can just use it as an excuse to go full drift missile ghetto-fabulous”

Like a pony car or a p-51?

Hahaha pony car.

A P-51 would've gotten the point across better though!

Ouch! Yeah...that’s one of the risks you take running a chin spoiler on a Miata. Any sort of contact will cause a minor headache to fix it. To be honest, a rubber unit would be ideal to take the abuse and still look good.

yeah this one is some sort of weird soft plastic stuff. No idea the brand, it seems there are clones to the power of a thousand of this style of chin spoiler. The car does look awkward as hell without it, though.

Aaaah that sucks man, sorry to hear that. The moment you know you’ve lost it is the worst. At least it’s fixable. Oppo is on a roll tonight - someone else hit black ice and spun, which you may have seen already

I commented on it. That sinking feeling when you feel that you’re not getting control back and realize how thoroughly fucked you are and start thinking about how you can fix it.

Yep that instant shot of the wrong kind of adrenaline is awful. I spun my old car into a snowbank once - it was a big old tank so nothing broke (1989 635csi) but I was mentally out of commission for the rest of the day.

At least you did it while in the Miata’s natural habitat, my splitter on the other hand; looked the same after a suicidal cat decided on Miata death, instead of Miata life. lol :/
